t is no longer news that the world’s most wanted fugitive has reportedly been killed by the United States. Osama Bin Laden once again, as it was late in 2001 has become the most popular name on earth. The Royal Wedding, Muammar Gadhafi and the Syrian uprising have all taken the back burner since early Monday morning. A sense of relief has washed through the world and the United States President Barack Obama is the man of the hour. Majority of the earth’s population (I mean citizens of the world who have enough to eat and then a little more energy to follow trending topics), are elated by this news, not interested in the unanswered questions arising from this ‘victory’.
I am not pro-violence, therefore do not like terrorists. They are radical murderers hiding behind whatever ideologies that fuel their sensibilities. I believe they are cowards and not bold-faced fighters like they would want to be remembered as. Be that as it may, intelligent watchers of these events still have questions; most of which have not been answered so far.
I am not being impatient, because I am playing the hand that the world and I have been dealt with. The United States Government and the world media played the events of the last few days as a fanfare, a Hollywood movie. Footages of President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and members of the National Security team of the US Government in the White House, were released this week, of them watching the action all go down in Abbottabad, Pakistan. So, they have created this atmosphere of ‘we are all in this together. There is no secret between us. No information is on a need- to- know basis.’ But at the end of the day, the story we have come to believe has so many holes in it. I want those holes filled, what about you? I would attempt to piece together a bunch of questions that, I guess are on the minds of most people.
Osama Bin Laden was said to be killed by an army of 25 members of the United States Special Forces that swooped on his Abbottabad mansion. They came in three helicopters and a lot of noise. Osama was captured and shot on the head and chest, causing his death. The US Government said the operatives were on a kill-mission. They were not given the direction to capture him alive, which they would very well have done if that were the plan. But, they did not. They have done that in the past, Saddam Hussein, for example, so it is not a farfetched idea. My question is: Had Bin Laden been captured and arrested, would the United Sates have survived the can of worms that would have been opened? His connection with the C.I.A during the invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union in the 1970s? His connection with the Prince of Turkey, including Osama’s alleged visits to the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad in the 1980s, as a ‘friend’ of the Prince? Mind you, Turkey has been a major United States ally, for a long time.
People around the world have taken to the streets, to social media to celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden. I am planning a party to commemorate that too. You are all invited, by the way. And yet, we have not seen any visual proof of his death. Neither videos nor pictures that prove that this monster is really dead and gone. I do not like to see blood or mangled bodies, but we will be more satisfied if such visual evidence exists; even though I would choose not to look. The United States Government has led us to believe that it runs a fairly open book. What they have revealed about this issue is a statement saying that they used facial recognition techniques to identify him at death and then DNA testing were used to crosscheck his body samples with that of his family members; possibly in the US Government’s data bank. That is all we have now, people. And we believe? Where is the evidence of Osama Bin Laden’s death? Why have we all decided to trust the US so much? When did we all learn to trust? Just asking, anyway.
The US Government told us all that Osama’s corpse was buried at sea after Islamic burial rites were carried out on the body. Burying his body at sea is as far from Muslim practice as it gets. At sea? Really? For a government that loves to gloat, does this seem like what they will do?
I also wonder about the other three adult male and a woman; among who is allegedly his son and his wife. What became of their corpses? Nothing has been heard about these victims of the raid. Is it too early to get answers to these questions?
Then, there is the war of words from both the US and the Pakistani Governments. The he-said, she-said situation that has pervaded the raid on Bin Laden is another issue that brings distrust to the fore. US said it was a ‘unilateral decision’ to go through with an operation of such importance. They claim they held the raid plans close to their chest; carrying out such operation in the middle of another country, disregarding the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan. Is that what they want us all to believe?
On the other hand, the Pakistanis call it ‘a shared achievement’. They still maintain, despite being contradicted by the US, that they gave some sort of cooperation to the operation. Guess what? I will go with the Pakistanis on this one. This is not a Hollywood movie. There are implications and consequences for actions. Why do I believe the Pakistanis? The US Special Ops helicopters that were used for the raid would have been shot down if the Pakistanis were not informed, at least at the last minutes before the raids. It would have been an invasion of their airspace and severe repercussions would follow such abuse of a Nation’s sovereign rights. Also, eyewitness reports show the planes were flying very low, despite the fact that that area of Abbotabad is residential. In the footages from the Western media, the raid was carried out in pitch darkness; electricity was cut off. Tweets were going on with the news that phone lines were also down at that point. If the Pakistani government had not been privy to the operation, how would the US have pulled it off? We know they are the US, but Pakistan is Pakistan too. The US government said they got intelligent information since September 2010 and subsequently held five intelligence meetings since mid March this year. Again, where did the intelligence come from? And with whom did the US meet with? Pakistan?
President Obama in his broadcast announcing Bin Laden’s death said, among other things: ‘Justice has been served.’ What is justice? According to my limited knowledge, it includes respect for human rights, fair trial, fair conviction, etc. Why wasn’t he captured and tried like Saddam Hussein? The US Government has to give us more clarification. He has been ‘killed’ and shrouding the whole thing in secrecy will not answer our questions. Or do they even care? I doubt it very much. It is the US, remember?
Everyone is raving about who Bin Laden’s al- Qaeda successor would be. You want my two cents on that? I’m always willing to give it. I’m generous like that. Anyway, in the first place, I believe al- Qaeda is not an organization with membership cards but a state of mind, an ideology.
Bin Laden, earlier on in this his murderous campaign urged for a ‘global jihad’ against the West (whom he called ‘Infidels’). Anyone with radical views against the West and who is willing to kill innocent people to prove is Al Qaeda. That is what I have deciphered from following their activities (which I derived no joy in). Granted, Bin Laden is a leader in the campaign, but his death would not bring more peace on earth than would buckets of ice cream make me obese; no matter how much I try. Terrorism will continue (I’m sorry to say), because many Arab and North African countries that are sympathetic to the Osama cause, have organizations that follow the Al- Qaeda footsteps.
For me, Bin Laden died ten years ago when a cave in Tora Bora in Afghanistan where he was allegedly staying was bombed by US forces. His presence was only felt by videos released after the 9/11 attacks on the United States; like in 2006 and 2008. And they were generic messages of vengeance against the West. There were not specific assignments like ‘Go bomb London’ or ‘Let’s give Madrid a taste of Al Qaeda. This goes to show Bin Laden as the leader of an ideology and not an organization with membership cards, like PDP.
Again, now Bin Laden has reportedly been killed, would the military invasion by the West in Afghanistan be halted? Would President Obama keep his promise to withdraw a major chunk of the troop come July? How long will the US continue to spend money, about $1 trillion and counting, in this campaign?

So, Obama ‘killed’ Osama…? Matters Arising
What’s Sexy About Sportsmen?
Sportsmen in general appeal to the opposite sex a lot and by sportsmen, I speak in generic terms, meaning men and women into sports. Of course not all professional sportsmen have this magic but of the lot who have, there’s no sparing the lusting fans; no wonder many of them are either dating, married or once married to ex-beauty queens, models and actors or actresses.
From the gods and goddesses of Tennis to the titans of Football and then the hunks of Basketball, you can’t help gasping when the sexy stars run up the pitch, make that dunk or swing that racket. And somehow, their outfits just seem to help further our imaginations. I mean, beyond watching a good game, who doesn’t need some form of side attraction? *wink*.
I’ll make a quick rundown of sportsmen that in my opinion have gorgeous bodies, and have at one time or the other given me the oomph.
Top on the list would have to be English midfielder David Beckham. His many endorsements say it all. His quality of play on the pitch may be far from fantastic but no one comes near comparison when it comes to looks. Little wonder he’s the only sportsman who made it to the royal wedding. Victoria is just one lucky woman.
Next, I remember my days of tripping for Ivorian-born Manchester City defender, Habib Toure, in his early days with Arsenal FC. ‘Fine black man‘, I would whisper to myself. I would watch Arsenal play then for two reasons- one you already know- Toure, and the other was Thierry Henry. I loved the short bald cutie. Even his meaningless fits of temper were romantic *chuckles*
In tennis, Roger Federer is just the perfect gentleman. Young Rafael Nadal beats him to looks and physique but he doesn’t come close in any way to Federer’s cool, calm and collected behaviour on and off pitch. For the ladies, black power Serena Williams, sister Venus and Maria Sharapova are exciting to watch in their outfits. Serena’s very African curves and her choice of jerseys flirt with the crowd as she paces up and down the court either serving the ball or swinging it back.
Whether a serial cheat like Tiger Wood or die hard faithful like Beckham (at least he’s not been caught cheating), women just love sportsmen.
Coming back home, my Nigerian obsession used to be Super Eagles defender Joseph Yobo. Well, that was before beauty queen Adaeze Igwe cut short my fantasies. And what was the attraction? His pink lower lips *covers face in shame*. Only few weeks ago, Adaeze’s stunning mother also married a good looking and prized ex-footballer, John Fashanu. Fashanu was previously married to a Congolese beauty queen and would scarcely talk about his marital experience. British beauty Eva Longoria would probably have some ‘odd’ reasons for loving and sticking her French basketball player ex, Tony Parker, just before his extra-marital affairs became public.
Even Pipper Middleton, the ravishing sister to the Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William’s new bride), is dating a Rugby player yet you ask me what is sexy about sportsmen? Everything!

Jim Iyke Arrested In Abuja Over Tinted Glasses
The Nollywood Star, James Esomugha better known as Jim Iyke was arrested on Wednesday, March 10, 2011 for failing to comply with government rules on the use of tinted windows on vehicles in the country.
Jim Iyke was riding in a Silver Chrysler Convertible car with number plate ‘S-5’ along with his personal assistant when members of the Nigerian Police Force and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) stopped him.
The Police were complying with the directive issued by the Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Humphrey Abbah on Monday, February 28, 2011 enforcing the ‘provisions of prohibition of tinted glasses on vehicles’.
When ordered to step out of the car, the star actor refused. This prompted the police to forcefully remove the tints from the windows of the car at the scene. Iyke, who was obviously not happy with what was going on, caused a stir with the officers, attracting a crowd of on-lookers.
After much drama, an infuriated Jim Iyke had no choice but to follow the officers to the station. He was later released on recognition.
Forbes Lists Diddy As Hip-Hop’s Richest Man
American publishing and Media Company Forbes which is popularly known for its lists of the richest Americans (the Forbes 400) and its list of billionaires on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, named US rapper and entertainment mogul Sean John Combs better known as Diddy as ‘hip-hop’s wealthiest artiste’.
Diddy who over the years has successfully run his Bad Boy Records label imprint, has also ventured into other areas such as fashion (Sean John Clothing), movie production and most recently his Diageo joint-venture vodka brand Ciroc. All these plus other side ventures take the 41 year old to the top of the list with $475 million.
In similar fashion, Brooklyn MC Jay Z who has topped the list for the last three years, closely follows Diddy in second place with $450 Million. Other than his record sales that are close to 50 Million, Jay Z’s investments in his record label, fashion, cuisine and advertising have bolstered the rappers successful career.
The list continues with producer Dr. Dre in third place with $125 Million, while 50 Cent and Birdman tie at fourth with $100 Million.
Marketer Drags 2face to Court
Just when super star 2face Idibia is commanding an intense applause from Nigerians and Africans for making the continent proud as he featured on one of America’s notable TV shows ‘The Monique Show‘ last February, a marketing company called ‘Happy Boys‘ fronted by Bisi Bangbala is taking a business dealing that didn’t go down well between the two rather seriously.
Bangbala has alleged that he got involved in a negotiation with Mr. Idibia after he claimed that he would be making a duet with US R&B singer R. Kelly for his 2008 ‘Unstoppable‘ album.
NET gathered that Bangbala through his company (Happy Boys) opted to buy the album off 2face for an undisclosed sum with the hope of securing ROI (return on invested capital), especially because of the R. Kelly duet. However, just like many critics of the duet, the marketer claims he was disappointed by the so-called ‘R. Kelly duet’ – claiming it is questionable.
Bangbala was not satisfied with the finished product claiming Idibia did not do what he portrayed while the negotiation was on…
According to a report, having paid 2face’s Hypertek Records the agreed sum, the marketer was compelled to accept the album, but on the condition that 2face would produce another album to compensate for the loss.
Idibia went on to release his lastest album ‘The Unstoppable Int’l Edition‘ on his own label, working with other distributors. Sources say Happy Boys decided to let sleeping dogs lie; letting it all go by counting their losses and moving on.
However, we scooped that 2face’s new endorsement deal with telecommunications company Airtel, has energized the marketer’s commitment to recover his loss on the ‘Unstoppable’ deal.
He has reportedly threatened to spill out to the public and the Airtel management the ‘A-Z’ of how his unprofitable deal with 2face transpired unless Mr. Idibia refunds his money.
Speaking to NET on the case, which is already in court, 2face’s management (Now Muzik) confirmed the ongoing feud noting his camp has been served court papers.
‘The court papers have been served to Hypertek and do not contain any hit point. What they asked him for was that they did not know how the album was released. They said they were not party to the release and that it was released without their consent. We have been asked to wait for seven days by the court to determine what will happen next‘, Now Muzik boss Efe Omorogbe who refused to make further comments until the court case is determined tells NET exclusively.

Breaking News: Robbers Snatch Wizkid’s Car at Gunpoint!
EME act Wizkid is lucky to be alive, after armed bandits attacked him around 8PM on Saturday March 5, 2011 and made away with his car.
The 20 year old yet-to-debut hit-maker was reportedly riding with his friends (an unnamed lady, and Wande Coal‘s younger brother) in his Black Honda Accord i-VTEC when the incident happened.
Multiple sources tell NET Wizkid was on Ikorodu road, (in Lagos) on his way home, when the robbery incident happened.
‘There was an accident around there, and the robbers made away with several cars’ an inside source, who pleaded anonymity because the label was yet to make any announcement, tells us.
While Wizkid’s friends were let off, the robbers made the singer accompany them to Third Mainland bridge, where they dropped him off and left him stranded.
‘They took everything he had on him, including his mobile phones, so he had to trek all the way from third mainland bridge, back to the mainland’ a friend and associate tells us.
The car in question, we understand is the controversial Honda believed to have been a gift from his friend Tonto Dikeh.

Yoruba Movies Are Not Popular – Powerful Uche Jumbo
Uche Jombo has finally broken the silent. English and Yoruba Nollywood accord each other on who will respect who. . The eloquent English speaker spoke to THE REPORTER on the vexing issue, at the last BON award, after an ego flaunting incident had occurred between the Yoruba and English actors/actresses, who were at Ijebu- Ode and Abeokuta for the award ceremony.
“Organizers said I should speak on behalf of Nollywood. So I refused to speak at the thank-you dinner. I am too young to speak for this industry that is how I was brought up by the elders in the industry. I am not scared of speaking in public but I won’t allow myself to be pushed around. How could somebody just call me in the middle of an event to perform such a task I won’t allow such person to get to my tangent.”
You talked about the ego thing or the lack of respect that is between Yoruba speaking and English speaking acts. As long as I am concerned, the reverse is the case. This is because; I never watch their movies, since I don’t understand their language. The few I recognize, I greet them when I see them. But when most of them (Yoruba actors) see us (English Speaking actors) they always put up this attitude that says we must be the first to greet them. And so long as I am concerned, they do not respect us at all.” They think they are better than us. Our (English Nollywood) Industry is popular in other countries; theirs (Yoruba Nollywood) is popular only but in Nigeria, western part of Nigeria to speak out loud. Why are they so proud? I am not a hater but nobody should push me so hard; Said Uche.

The much talked about Champagne Conversations debuted yesterday Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Pool side of Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
With music provided by Shuga Band and DJ Jimmy JATT, the event was filled with an atmosphere of style, class and beautiful music as guests were stylishly treated to a grand evening.
The host of the show was R&B star Darey and popular faces who attended were Nollywood acts Kate Henshaw, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Monalisa Chinda, Rukky Sanda, and Annie Macauley, musicians Jaywon, Mo’Cheddah, KSB, Goldie, Praise, Timi Dakolo, Emem Ema, TWO, Femi Adeyinka, Essence and Djinee.
As some sort of amusement, a huge custom-made bottle of Moet & Chandon was kept afloat in the middle of the giant size swimming pool. Later on that night, everybody was taken by surprise as they saw a young man (later on found out to be the R&B singer, Praize), dive into the swimming pool to bring out the huge bottle. He then popped it open and poured everyone a glass.
Other notable people who attended are Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, ChiChi Nwoko, Denrele, Olisa Adibua, Yinka Oyedeji, Michelle Dede, Bolanle Okhiria, Gbenga Adeyinka (1st), Tee A, Segun Demuren, Jide Adediran, Toolz, Joke Jaiyesimi, Kingsley James, Tamilore Kuboye,Ayo Animashaun, Misi Molu, Dola Bamgboye, Cherry Eromosele, Steve Babaeko, Bayo Omisore, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, AY, Cecil Hammond, and Linda Ikeji.
M.I Acquires Range Rover Jeep
Less than two months ago that Chocolate City rapper M.I Abaga bought a white C Class Mercedes Benz, he surprised his minders when he unveiled another automobile weeks back – a white Range Rover jeep.
M.I reportedly acquired the brand new car few weeks ago, adding it to the two cars already in his garage.
‘He just bought a new white range a few weeks ago. I can’t remember the date exactly’, his manager, Lola tells NET on the phone.
The short black boy (as M.I is fondly called) who upon the release of his second album ‘MI2‘ has continued to garner local and international acclaim, seems determined not to lax in his quest for super stardom.

Why I fought 9ice —Ruggedman
Funny enough, it is not a nickname. I actually gave myself that name when I was in secondary school due to my love for comic books (Spiderman, Batman etc.). I just wanted a name that was different. At first, my name was Soul MC but I then realised that there were so many MCs (Young MC, Fab MC etc.). Paul Play and I then decided to go with Ruggedman.
Controversy between you and 9ice?
I have always been a very outspoken person. I believe we are all adults. You cannot flog me and I cannot flog you. The most we can do is talk to each other and I would tell you the truth rather than deceive you. I am a musician and my music is always for a reason. Music is a form of expression. When I did Ehen, I did not do it out of spite or to cause trouble, it is just how I express myself and tell the truth. The one I did for 9ice was even more personal because his song caused a rumour that was attacking my character and image and I would not take that lying down. I decided not to go exchanging words with him. I am too old for that. I admit I talked about all the things I did for him in the song, but I did not say all those things because I was trying to act like God or showing off. I only said those things in case he has forgotten or he is pretending to have forgotten. I want people to know things that happened between us. It is music. It is not just between me and him. He already wrote a song about me and I also decided to do the same. I wanted people to know that these are the personal things, good things that have happened between me and him so for him to throw all that away just because he wants to sell CDs, too bad.
Do you think the both of you would ever resolve your differences?
Well, resolved or not, I have moved on. This is 2011. All I wanted to do was clear my name. I would never be so evil to go after my friend’s wife considering the fact that I was the one that introduced them. The sad part was that 9ice never said anything about me and his wife in the song. He was referring to an ex-girlfriend. The song was about his past experience, even before he met his wife but a lot of people misinterpreted the whole thing. The only thing he did wrong was not coming out straight to admit that the song was about a past experience. If he had done that, the whole issue would not have gone this far. I do not know why he kept quiet, but right now, I don’t care. I have moved on. Anyone that wants to keep saying anything about Ruggedman and Toni Payne, that is their business.
Tell us about your clothing line.
It is called 20th September Wear. It is named after my birthday. I was born on September 20th. I have been on it for a while but I have slowed down right now because I am checking out some things. I am doing some research on the clothing but soon I would be back in full force. My clothes are mainly casual wears, street wears etc. The clothes reflect me. It reflects the street. Bottom line, I would just say they are street wears for male and female. I had a fashion show a few years back. I showcased a lot of clothing- jerseys, shirts, jackets, jeans etc. Right now, I want to concentrate on just the male and female T-shirts. I want to make it proper and amazing. I intend to start with that before moving on to other things.
Any other projects?
I have artistes coming out under Ruggedman Records. My new album came out a month ago titled Untouchable and I have songs in that album featuring artistes like Flavour, MI, 2Face, Psquare, and the late Da grin. The album is under Ruggedman Records. It is marketed by Obaino. From what I hear, it is the highest selling album right now.

Egyptian names his first-born daughter ‘Facebook
Proud father Jamal Ibrahim, who was swept up in enthusiasm over the revolt against President Hosni Mubarak, gave his daughter the unorthodox name to express his thanks for developments in Egypt since anti-government protests started on 25 January, according to Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram.
The girl’s full name is Facebook Jamal Ibrahim, and family and friends have reportedly gathered around the newborn to express their continuing support for the revolution that started on Facebook.
Egypt is home to five million Facebook users - the highest number in the Middle East - and the website was instrumental in galvanising civilians for peaceful protests that eventually toppled Mubarak.
Following the President’s resignation on 11 February, graffiti artists scribed 'Thank you Facebook' on walls across Cairo.
During the uprising, thousands of Egypt-themed groups and pages appeared on Facebook, and the military government even started using the site to try and reach out to Egyptian youth.
A whopping 32,000 groups and 14,000 pages were created in this time.
Facebook has received many gifts from young people who were overjoyed by both her arrival and her inventive name, reports Al-Ahram.

Aproko Exclusive: Toni Payne Dump 9ice For This Slim Guy
Toni Payne must have a thing for slim guys, Its been a year since separation from 9ice who they had a child together, Zion.
For weeks now, Toni has been getting tongues wagging, with many asking questions about who the man the artiste manager has been displaying on her BlackBerry is. Genevieve Nnaji pregnant for dbanj?
This is the cover of news of the people magazine published in Lagos Nigeria this week. One of the major stories talked about the story of pregnancy rumour trailing star actress, Genevieve Nnaji.
In recent times, there have been speculations that she was dating D'banj. Personally, I heard this pregnancy tale about two months ago from a close source in the Mohits camp...but did not give it much thought, but for it to surface again, and this time on tabloids, hmnnn....only time will tell, after 9months ....
CONFUSION OVER DUNCAN MIGHTY'SMOVE TO MO'HITS
Stemming from the widespread speculation that Port Harcourt based Nigerian singer Duncan Mighty has been signed to Mo’Hits Records; the label boss Don Jazzy has debunked the claim on the social networking site Twitter.
Despite Don Jazzy’s denial, the talented singer who’s riding on the success of his second studio album ‘LEGACY’ insists that the star studded label has employed him as a sound instructor, sound engineer and producer.
‘Yes I was just signed to Mo’Hits Records as a Sound instructor, Sound engineer and Producer. Not as a recording artiste but not that I can’t do songs with Mo’hits. My major job is studio work’, he tells NET.
However, the Mo’Hits crew manager, Sunday Are who spoke to us on the phone also played down talks of any concluded deal with the South-South star artiste.
‘He has not been signed to Mo’Hits. He’s about to be signed, but if he says he’s been signed already, whatever ’, Are says.
When the king of South-South as Duncan is fondly addressed was confronted with the fact of Don Jazzy’s denial, he refrained from giving further details, stating he would like to confirm.
‘I’m here with them. Let me confirm that’, he said hurriedly.
Our effort to reach Duncan Mighty afterwards was futile as his phone rang to no answer for several minutes.

PASUMA IN SEARCH OF THE NEXT FUJI STAR
In a quest for discovering new talents in Fuji music, popular musician and Fuji star Wasiu Alabi better known as Pasuma has started a new reality TV show titled ‘Ohun’.
Auditions for the show which will take place in June, will be held in four cities; Ikeja, Ibadan, Akure and Ilorin. After auditions, the grand finale will then be held in August.
‘’Ohun’ was initiated by management company AO21 Media in November 2008 but for one reason or the other we could not kick off till now. There are quite a lot of music talent shows but all seem focused on Hip hop, Pop and RNB and no one is paying attention to Fuji music. Fuji music is the most popular indigenous music in Nigeria but what happens when my generation stops singing? There are quite a lot talented young men out there who want to sing Fuji music but since no one is encouraging them, their talent is just wasting away. Over the years I have wondered if someone will ever think of doing a Fuji talent show. Rather than wait, I have taken up the responsibility to contribute my own quota to the growth of Fuji music. I am optimistic ‘Ohun’ will open doors for more Fuji talent shows and the more credible shows like ours the better it is for the industry’, Pasuma expressed.
‘Ohun’ a Yoruba word when translated to English Language means ‘Voice’, but the Fuji star explained that it meant more than that going on to include sound, melody, beat and rhythm were also induced in its meaning.
I DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL FOR KOKO MANSION' – RITA ISHOKHEN
The name Rita Isoken Igbinedion may not be instantly familiar, but Rita Koko Mansion would definitely ring a bell. If not for anything; at least for all the grammatical bombshells she detonated while the TV reality show was on. Till now, many still have her hilarious scenes on Koko Mansion on their mobile phones – it’s even all over YouTube.
Igbinedion may not have emerged the winner of Koko Mansion but her ‘outstanding’ use of the English Language stole the shine from the winner who has since gone into obscurity.
In this interview with NET, Rita confesses that her English Language deficiency can be blamed on her bumpy educational background. Interestingly, while preparing to start her University education; she is looking forward to hosting her own TV show this year (EDUCATING WITH RITA).
QUE: You became popular through the Koko mansion platform, how did you get on the show?
ANS: I got to know about Koko Mansion through a family friend when I just had my hair cut. He told me it was D’banj‘s show; quite similar to the Big Brother Show and he would like me to be involved. I told him I wasn’t interested in stardom and couldn’t even afford to purchase the form that cost N5000. So I went on to tell my best friend who gave me N7000 and said I must participate in the program. I headed straight to GT Bank to purchase the form, filled and returned it. I was later informed that I had been selected for the auditions and was to report to Lagos. I was a little discouraged because I had never been to Lagos or known anything about the City, but I was told my flight had been booked so I just gave it a try. When I got to Lagos, they came to pick me at the airport. I can’t lie to you. I was very happy. I didn’t even know that the other girls were there with me, I thought I was the only one they came to pick. The next day I saw different people when I went for the interview before I was finally selected among the housemates. So I went back home to prepare; but they never got back to me for almost three months. I almost gave up again. I even called them but they never responded. I then made up my mind that if they really wanted me, they would call me. The day I deleted their number from my phone was the day they called me.
QUE: Take us through your Family background?
ANS: I was born on March 3, 1990. I’m from an average family of eight and we all live in Benin, Edo State. I am the fourth child of six children and the last girl. My family consists of three boys and three girls.
QUE: how about your Educational background?
ANS: I dropped out of school when I was in SS3 in order to participate in Koko Mansion. At the end of the show, I went back to write my SSCE exams. So hopefully this year I would be admitted into Igbinedion University, Okada to study Political Science.
QUE: After Koko Mansion, what have you been doing?
ANS: I have been working on my project.
QUE: What Project?
ANS: It’s going to be a reality TV show tagged ‘EDUCATING WITH RITA‘.
QUE: What exactly is it all about?
ANS: It’s just a show where Rita would be trying to educate young ones out there. The production would start soon but there is no definite time and date yet because we’re still trying to sort out many things, hopefully this year things should start off. I don’t want to reveal too much about it now.
QUE: Did you release any song titled ‘Call the EFCC’ Immediately after Koko Mansion?
ANS: No, I didn’t release any song; it was all pranks made by some set of people. I don’t even know how to sing.
QUE: Aside the Reality Show, do you have plans for any other aspect of entertainment?
ANS: No, not really but for now it’s just the show that is on my mind.
QUE: Since you’ll be resuming at the University this year, don’t you think it would clash with the Show?
ANS: Those are part of the things we are working on. By the time we’re through, there won’t be any clash and it will surely work out. There will be no distractions.
QUE: Even the winner of Koko mansion ‘Bolanle’ did not gain as much popularity as you did, why is this so?
ANS: I think it’s because of the way I presented myself out there because I’m from a responsible home. Secondly I think it’s because of all the ‘EFCC under Yahoo Yahoo’ that I said which was recorded as a video and spread all around. Since then people have been curious to know who Rita is.
QUE: Many people who watched Koko Mansion noted you for grammatical blunders like ‘Nigeria are not safety enough‘ and ‘EFCC under Yahoo Yahoo’. Was that the best way you could express yourself?
ANS: That was not the best way I could express myself. Most times it was due to pressure. That ‘EFCC under yahoo yahoo‘ line that I said was not meant that way. There was a chart drawn on the board which had EFCC written under Yahoo Yahoo, so when one of the instructors asked where I got EFCC from I said ‘EFCC is under yahoo yahoo‘ as shown on the board. People were just screaming without knowing what actually went down. When I even saw the video, I was like this is not me; I never said all that but right now I no longer care.
QUE: Did you feel discouraged at any point in time?
ANS: No, why would I? I was just expressing myself. Since I know I have a future that lies ahead of me, why would I be discouraged?
QUE: Recently, your grammatical blunders were transferred to Twitter with several retweets. Don’t you agree that they may be correct in regarding you as a semi-illiterate?
ANS: Well, I agree with what anyone says. Even if they say I’m a complete illiterate, I agree. At the end of the day what matters is who Rita is going to be not what she was. Is she going to be a good mother? Is she going to a good role model to the youths? Is she going to be an ideal woman These are qthe things that matter the most. As for the tweets, I don’t even own a twitter account; maybe it’s just someone playing pranks. People can say whatever they like. I don’t givwe a f**k.
QUE: What could you attribute all your grammatical blunders to?
ANS: I think it’s because I stopped school for a while.
QUE: How are your sibling’s educational background compared to yours?
ANS: I think they are far better than me because they’re really trying. My younger ones are still in secondary school and my elder ones have all graduated from the University.
QUE: The purpose of Koko Mansion was to identify an ‘Ideal Nigerian’ woman. Even though you eventually lost out, do you think you fit that position?
ANS: I fit the position then and more so now, I think I still do but I’m still learning. The only problem I had was my education, but as for other aspects I am an ideal woman.
QUE: What were the lessons you learnt during your stay in Koko Mansion?
ANS: I learnt a whole lot. Before I didn’t know how to comport myself, I didn’t know how to talk to people because I am a shy person but now I can do all these confidently. I also learnt how to dress well; as you can see I’m putting on a white top, a white footwear should never go on it. I’m a much better person now than before.
QUE: Was there any scuffle between you and anyone in the house, then?
ANS: Yes it was between me and a girl called Isi. She wasn’t even a member of the house; she just came for a visit. I can’t really remember what exactly happened but I know she insulted my parents and referred to me as an illiterate at several instances. I initially kept quiet but when it was becoming continuous I had to reply her, because I would not have anyone insult my parents in my presence. It was after a while I discovered that she was just visiting.
ANS: Of all the housemates, which of them do you miss and why?
QUE: I don’t actually pray to be like anyone of them; I intend to be better than them.
ANS: Most of them were pretending to be perfect but they are not who they claim to be. But I can remember that I learnt a lot from Bolanle (winner). She was my very good friend. I just tried to ignore most of them. If they like me, fine, and if they don’t like me, I don’t care either. I prefer to be shot than see you reign insults on my family. Even if I get married now, I can’t even give my husband the right to insult my younger ones not to talk of my parents.
QUE: Among those that visited the Koko Mansion, which of them had the greatest impact on you?
ANS: I learn a lot from Bukky, the Yoruba actress and Funke Akindele who was just hilarious. They both taught me how to be responsible in the home.
QUE: Do you have a boyfriend?
ANS: I had a boyfriend then but I no longer have. I’m single and not searching. We broke up few months before the Koko Mansion but since I got back, he’s been begging me that he wants me back. As a lady I’m trying to prove hard to get. I may eventually give him a chance but I haven’t decided.
QUE: What does he do?
ANS: While we were together he was serving but he just concluded his Masters program. He was my first boyfriend.
QUE: Despite your grammatical blunders, if you had the chance of returning to the Koko Mansion, how would you react?
ANS: I went there the first time and survived so if I go a second time I would still survive. So, I have no fears.

DAREY DUETS WITH CHAMILLIONAIRE
As R&B star, Darey gears up to release his double disc album in a matter of days, NET has exclusive news that the popular R&B singer-songwriter has collaborated with Nigerian American rapper Chamillionaire to record a remix to one of his singles.
Sources say Darey, who’s enjoying massive on-air support for his singles ‘The way you are’, ‘Sisi eko’ and ‘Ba ni kdi’, has recorded a remix of ‘The way you are’, with the Grammy award-winning rapper Chamillionaire who even spiced up his lyrics with Yoruba language.
‘They hooked up on the internet’ an insider tells NET. And it is believed it was Cham that contacted Darey.
Born to a Nigerian father, 31 year-old Chamillionaire (real name Hakeem Seriki) is an American rapper mostly known for his monster hit ‘Ridin’’ (featuring Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs n Harmony) which earned him the Video Music Awards in 2006, and a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2007.
Critics say the remix with Chamillionaire might very well see Darey who is an ambitious singer, launch his career and presence into the global scene as he has already announced plans for a 2011 UK release, followed by a US project.
‘The Chamillionaire collabo was not planned at all, it came as a surprise. The ones we were really planning are still in the pipeline. Once these come through, and we have a go-ahead, we’ll definitely let you know…’, one of his associates tells us.
